Investing in exit: funders with foresight

Prevent Child Sexual Abuse Programme / Organisational strengthening and effectiveness

Cartoon by Bill Crooks

We believe in exiting grants responsibly. That is why, as we prepare to exit after 15 years of support and partnership between Oak’s Prevent Child Sexual Abuse Programme and Ethiopian partners, we developed the ‘capacity-building for exit’ programme. We hope that it will help to leave our partners in Ethiopia in a good place, as well as more resilient and able to continue their work without our support.

The programme was implemented by Ethiopian consultants supported by INTRAC, an organisation that exists to strengthen the effectiveness of civil society to challenge poverty and equality, which helped design the capacity strengthening process. In this blog, Ayele Ashagre, the programme evaluator and Rick James, the INTRAC organisational change specialist explain the programme, it’s elements and the impact it has created.
