William R. Cotter

Oak Foundation / Foundation

In Memory of William R. Cotter, Former President of Oak Foundation

We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the recent passing of William (Bill) R. Cotter, the former President and Chair of Oak Foundation’s Board. Bill joined Oak Foundation as the first President in 2000, after leading a private liberal arts college, Colby College, in the USA since 1979.

Bill was an exceptional leader and made significant contributions during his time as President. He helped formally establish the Oak Foundation Denmark and the International Human Rights Programme, leaving an indelible mark on the foundation’s mission and history. He also supported the first grants related to learning differences. After retiring as President in 2005, he continued to serve as Chair of the Board until December 2007, providing invaluable guidance and support. More information on Bill’s contributions and life can be found in this recent article written by Colby College.

Bill’s legacy will always be remembered and celebrated by Oak Foundation. We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Bill’s contributions to the foundation and the world will never be forgotten.

Sincerely,

Natalie Shipton, Chair of the Board of Trustees
