Prevent Child Sexual Abuse
Programme
Supporting a safer world where children can thrive
Overview
Child sexual abuse is preventable. This fact drives our commitment to end child sexual abuse online and offline. Our partners are survivors, change makers, and researchers working to accelerate action at the community, national, and global levels. There is growing public desire to do more, and we have the knowledge and solutions needed to create a world where all children can thrive.
Our grant-making focuses on bringing together: powerful data and solutions; strong accountability mechanisms; and vibrant leaders, organisations, and movements. We support strategic initiatives and new ideas that build capacity and talent over the long term. To support our partners, we have divided our grant-making into six priority funding areas which overlap and are connected to each other. We strive to work together as a team across these six areas of funding.
Where we fund
While we do not have priority countries across the programme, we prioritise some geographies based on where we see the most opportunity. For example, our grant-making under safe digital environments is concentrated in the UK, EU, and USA, while most of grant-making under justice for survivors is currently focused in the Americas.
What we fund
Generating evidence for solutions that work
We support efforts that generate evidence to understand the nature of the problem and the most effective and scalable solutions for different contexts. Preventing child sexual abuse requires multiple strategies that are locally informed, designed, and tested before being scaled up to reach as many children, families, and communities as possible.
Building healthy relationships and supporting families
We support efforts that build healthy relationships, and work with men and boys as leaders and role models. Our grant-making focuses on adolescence and transition to fatherhood, two life course moments where men and boys’ relationships change.
Creating a digital world designed with children in mind
We support efforts that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children online. Through collaboration and sharing best practices, technology can be designed in a way that respects children’s and survivors’ access to privacy, dignity, and justice. We focus on making technologies safe by design and removing online child sexual abuse material.
Safeguarding child athletes to protect them from harm
We support efforts that ensure child athletes can safely participate in sports, without facing abuse. Sports must be a safe and enjoyable space for children, with strong child safeguarding mechanisms in place.
Creating environments where survivors feel empowered to come forward
We support efforts that create supportive environments that allow survivors to access justice by eliminating legal barriers and improving practices through research and evidence. We believe that bringing justice to survivors can deter child sexual abuse.
Building a world where survivors and allies are central in preventing child sexual abuse
We support efforts that increase the capacity of survivor-led groups and their allies to share their stories. Including the voices of survivors is crucial to build urgency around preventing child sexual abuse. We support the work of survivor-led groups and their allies across all of our priority funding areas.

Sexual violence against children is a global pandemic. One in five girls and one in 13 boys experience sexual violence. It happens everywhere, and across all socio-economic groups, with devastating and lifelong consequences for individuals, their families, and society. At Oak Foundation, we believe that sexual violence against children is preventable. In this video, we speak to a range of experts from around the world to find out how. This work falls under Oak’s Prevent Child Sexual Abuse (PCSA) programme. You can find out more about the programme by clicking here.
