In memory of David Gowland

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Gowland, the much-loved artistic director of the Jette Parker Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House in London. David was an exceptional person whose warmth, talent, and dedication touched the lives of so many.

As the programme’s founding artistic director, serving from 2001 until 2026, David helped nurture the careers of more than 150 singers, conductors, directors, and répétiteurs. An exceptionally talented musician, he brought passion and a profound belief in young artists to his work, helping them develop their craft and build their careers. His commitment to the programme took him far beyond London, as he coached and supported emerging artists around the world.

Oak Foundation and our co-founder, Jette Parker, are proud to have supported the programme since 2004. “We remember David with deep admiration and gratitude. His legacy lives on through the many artists he supported and the audiences they continue to inspire.”

We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, and to everyone whose life he touched. We will remember him fondly and remain deeply grateful for his extraordinary contribution.
