Programme Associate, Housing and Homelessness Programme
Circa £35,000 – based in London
Oak Foundation is seeking to appoint a Programme Associate to support the Senior Programme Officer for Housing and Homelessness. The programme has a growing portfolio of over 60 grants in the UK and USA, and grant-making is also to be established in India. The programme focuses on homelessness prevention, and places an emphasis on long-term outcomes and systems change.
The job involves assisting in the management of a substantial and well-respected portfolio of grants to a range of organisations that differ in terms of scale, culture and profile. Working closely with the Senior Programme Officer, the role includes:
- Reviewing and responding to letters of inquiry and proposals received by the Foundation.
- Assessing the quality of projects, projected impact, value-for-money, and relevance to programme priorities.
- Research to identify new projects and potential applicant organisations.
- Negotiating with organisations regarding the nature of proposed projects and outcomes.
- Drafting grant recommendations to be considered by the Senior Programme Officer, President and Trustees.
- Monitoring and evaluating grants on paper, by phone and through site visits.
- Contributing to the strategic development of the programme including participating in planning exercises, conferences and seminars.
- Administrative tasks; the role is largely self-supporting.
- All other relevant duties that may be assigned from time to time.
To be considered for this post you must have:
- A university degree or equivalent.
- 3-5 years experience working in a role involving the development and delivery of housing and homelessness services, securing funding or grant-making.
- The right to live and work in the UK.
You must be willing to:
- Work full-time from Oak’s office in Central London.
- Be able to travel up to 30% of your working time for up to two weeks at a time.
Essential Skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Ability to write concisely, clearly and with precision.
- A working knowledge of and understanding of issues in the not-for-profit, or homelessness sector.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to negotiate successfully whilst maintaining positive relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively in diverse forums and through different mediums.
- Ability to analyse and interpret both qualitative and quantitative information.
- Basic understanding of budgeting and accounts.
- Computer skills: word processing, database entry and internet based research.
Benefits: Salary of circa £35,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Pension and health benefits on confirmation of employment (after three months).
