(Environment Programme / Marine Conservation)
Alexandra Marques joined Oak Foundation in 2017 as a Programme Associate for the Marine Conservation Programme. Her work at Oak focuses on challenges in small scale fisheries globally and in the Arctic region, as well as illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing and marine plastics.
Prior to joining Oak Foundation, Alexandra served as Conservation Project Manager at the Príncipe Trust Foundation in West Africa, São Tomé & Príncipe, during which she managed a sea turtle conservation programme. She developed a strategy to extend the protection of turtles to the entire island, and launched several environmental awareness projects to engage the local communities in their protection. Much of her field work experience comes from having joined other turtle projects in Costa Rica, Cyprus and Thailand. She also has extensive ecological experience with UK species, such as bats, lizards and great crested newts.
Alexandra has a Bachelor of Science in Biodiversity and Conservation from the University of London (Birkbeck College), United Kingdom, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from the Instituto Superior de Gestão, Portugal.
