Bay Cove Human Services. Inc.
To support the expansion of the Tenancy Preservation Project (TPP) which supports people with disabilities who are facing eviction at the Housing Court in Boston, Massachusetts. The project enhances the ability of the Housing Court to offer ‘reasonable accommodation’ (as defined by state and federal laws) to people whose disability hampers their ability to sustain their tenancy. The TPP is one of a range of projects managed by Bay Cove which aims to improve the quality of life of individuals and their families facing the challenge of developmental disabilities, aging, mental illness, and/or drug and alcohol addiction. Bridge Fund of New York, Inc.
To enable the Bridge Fund of New York to establish a Brooklyn operation, which over the grant period would assist 194 households (500 individuals) to stay in their homes. It will enable the Fund to pilot a programme to serve pre-retirement workers who risk losing subsidised or rent-controlled housing because, until retirement benefits are triggered, their income is not sufficient. The Bridge Fund offers information and budget counselling, advocacy, and financial assistance to pay back rent or mortgage arrears that are resulting in threatened eviction or foreclosure. Community Legal Services, Inc. Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition and The Reinvestment Fund
To demonstrate the impact of accessible, pro-active, comprehensive, targeted, neighbourhood-level housing resource brokerage services in reducing unsustainable sub-prime/predatory mortgage lending, mortgage loan delinquencies, and foreclosures in Philadelphia. To secure the enactment and enforcement of state-level regulations and legislation aimed at combating predatory lending. To use specific neighbourhood data to target localities and groups, and to regularly assess impact and revise the approach accordingly. This partnership among three organisations, integrates community outreach, credit and housing resource counselling, and access to a range of solutions including fairly priced loans, grants, subsidies, legal representation and expert data collection and analysis. To preserve the tenancies of low-income tenants in Boston, Massachusetts, who are facing eviction for minor infractions. To work pro-actively with owners of major housing developments to create a more positive approach to housing management than the aggressive pursuit of evictions. Greater Boston Legal Services provides free, civil legal assistance to people with low incomes who need to obtain or retain some of the basic necessities of life. (Over three years)
